Five people were found dead in a murder-suicide incident at a home in southern Maryland on Friday, according to a statement released Saturday by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office.
The bodies were found by police officers at a home in La Plata, about 35 miles south of Washington, DC, around 4 p.m. Friday on Friday after a witness called 911 to report a shooting, the Charles County Sheriff’s spokeswoman said. Diane Richardson Friday.
When police got to the house, they found the homeowner at the front door, who said he had returned home from work and found five dead inside.
Police said initial investigations showed a suspect identified as Andre Sales, 28, entered the home and killed four people before shooting himself with a gun found at the scene.
The victims have been identified as his ex-girlfriend Sara Mann, 21, her mother Sommaly Mann, 48, and younger brother Kai Mann, 18, authorities said. The fourth victim has been identified as Javon Watson, 23, but his relationship to the other victims is not clear.
Authorities say autopsies are being conducted to determine the cause of death for each victim, and investigators are interviewing family and friends to determine a motive for the killings.
Two children, whom the sheriff’s office could not identify, were initially missing but later found safe at another location.
The investigation is ongoing, the sheriff’s office said.
